CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Peilding 1 Lawn Tennis Club commenced their club competitions on Saturday afternoon. A few matches were played off in the first rounds with th e following results; —• Ladies’ Championship Singles. First round—Mr s • Caldwell defeated Miss E.‘Elliot,' 6 —l, 4—6, 6—4; Miss P. Barltrop defeated Miss Ellerm 4 —6, 6—l, 6—2. Ladies’ Doubles Handicap First round.—Mrs Caldwell and Miss Shepherd (scr.) defeated Misses Ellerm and Entwisle (18) 60—40; Misses Boddy and Barltrop (8) defeated Misses Kempthorne and Pettigrew (20) GO—4o; Misses Atkinson and Spence (18) defeated Misses Cornfoot arid. Elliot (19) 62—60. Men’s Doubles Handicap. First, round.—Fawcett and Maguire (scr.) defeated Miers and Hostick (20) 61—59. The Championships will be continued during th e - next fortnight.
