A quiet spot, adjacent to the banks of the .Oroua river was, the scene of no little excitement on Sunday afternoon when the police raided a twoup school and arrested twelve men, who are alleged to. have been participating in the illegal game of chance. The police have been in possession of the knowledge of the existence of this school for s’ome time, but its location was until recently, carefully concealed. However, on Sunday morning Constables Pike and McCall; acting under instructions from Sergeant Cahill, set out to take up positions where operations could be watched. A lengthy wait rewarded the police, wh.o stepped, in just when the game was enjoying the earnest attention of the players. There followed a general br’eak-away, but not before twelve men had been Interviewed and their names taken. Court proceedings will'' follow next week.
