NOTES OF THE DAY

Welcome rain fell in Feilding throughout yesterday with beneficial results. The men engaged on the construction of the new weir in' connection with the Borough water improvement scheme, have completed their task. The nature of the work required operations to be almost continuous in order that the job could be completed before any heavy rain set in to cause the river, to rise. Yesterday was declared a holiday, and it was a coincidence that the weir should be completed a few hours before rain begain to fall, and that the, holiday should come on a day when rain would otherwise have compelled a cessation of operations.
