With this jond in view, a sub-committce was [appointed, with power to issue invitations and arrange the details of the conference. The intentions of the committee were subsequently explained by Mr. W. W. Massey, president of tbe Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. It was of vital importance to the Dominion, he said, particularly in view of the falling prices of primary products, that every effort should be made immediately to ascertain the most effective means of increasing primary production. “There is no doubt whatever.” he continued, “that it should be possible to devise some means of converting large areas of land in Now Zealand, at the present time, non-productive, into profitable farms.”
