INCREASING PRODUCTION
PROBLEM OP LAND SETTLEMENT TO Bid EXAMINED IN AUCKLAND AUCKLAND, October 30th. During iho Royal Show Week an |important conference will be held in Auckland for the purpose of examining the problem of land settlement and formulating proposals as to tbe (best manner of encouraging clover | sel l lenient and increasing the nailional production. The initiative ■is being taken by the Organising ComI mil lee of the Show, which resolved yesterday to summon a national conj i'orence on Tuesday. D>th November. ; It. is proposed to issue invitations to | the leading citizens, including the I farmers throughout New Zealand, ’(be idea being to gather ropresentajlivo opinions from the various sections of the community. With this jond in view, a sub-committce was [appointed, with power to issue invitations and arrange the details of the conference. The intentions of the committee were subsequently explained by Mr. W. W. Massey, president of tbe Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. It was of vital importance to the Dominion, he said, particularly in view of the falling prices of primary products, that every effort should be made immediately to ascertain the most effective means of increasing primary production. “There is no doubt whatever.” he continued, “that it should be possible to devise some means of converting large areas of land in Now Zealand, at the present time, non-productive, into profitable farms.”
