CHURCH JUBILEE. I From Our Own Correspondent.] All Saints’ Church Jubilee celebrations were brought to a close yesterday afternoon by a childrens’ party, prior to which a short service was held in the church. Rev. W. H. Walton, vicar, presided. Rev. Kenny, of Palmerston North, gave a short and appropriate address to the children, taking for his theme incidents in the life of St. Nicholas. After the service the children were photographed in front of the church and then formed a circle round the church singing a verse or the hymn, “The House of God." An adjournment was then made to the hall where a bountious tea was served. When the children wore sealed at the tables, the scene was one which will be long ,'eniembred. A handsome birthday cake, made by Mrs. A. S. Norton, Senr., held the place of honour - . Around the cake were 50 miniature candles, representing the 50 years of the church’s life. The task of lighting these was allotted to Douglas Hasten, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Hasten. Little Audrey Robinson, representing one of the oldest families connected with the church, cut the cake with the vicar’s assistance. This was served round by two of the Sunday School teachers, Misses O. York and B. Crowe. After tea the children were given a treat in the shape of a scramble for sweets and nuts. At the conclusion of the party, Mr. A. M. T. Williams, on behalf of the church members, voiced appreciation of the Rev .and Mrs. Walton’s efforts in organising the jubilee celebrations,! and eulogised the work of the Sunday | School teachers. The organisation had been excellent, and both Rev. and I Mrs. Walton had been untiring in their efforts to make the occasion the groat success it had been. Rev. Walton briefly replied on behalf of Mrs. Walton ami the teachers. At (he social function held on Monday evening, special mention was made of the presence of four of the oldest members of the church —Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Hasten, and Mr. and Mrs. if. Robinson. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Robinson was the second to bo celebrated in the church. Vital Statistics. For Ihe month of October, there were i births, one marriage, and no deaths.
