The Maori Rugby football team beat Yorkshire by 17 points to nine.

In their match against Yorkshire the 1924-25 All Blacks won by 40 points to four.

Five thousand spectators at the rugby match, Maoris against Yorkshire, witnessed a hard fast game, thoroughly interesting throughout.

The weather was calm but cold, and the ground in good order. The teams were: —

Maoris: Pelham, Falwasser, Potaka. Phillips, Mete, Bell, Kingi, Barclay. Stewart, Manning, Rika, Haupapa, Tatana, Manihera, and Wilson.

Yorkshire: G. Harnell, E. Rycroft, F. Roberts (captain), H. Moore, F. Adams, H. Fletcher, H. Thompson, I. E. Whitefiold, J. Eastwood, E. Blacker, E_ Winklcy, W. Chalcroft, E, Wrighton, H. Proctor and H. Wilkinson.

The Maoris played one of the best games o£ the tour, the team working together much better both in the back and forward division. A feature was the pace o£ the Maoris as a team, and the brilliant dribbling of the Yorkshire vanguard, the spectators continuous cry to the homo team was. ■•feet, feet.” The Yorkshiremen responded by giving a fine display of this branch of the code, which is seldom seen in New Zealand. Yorkshire opened strongly, and within three minutes Roberts cut in well and allowed Proctor to score a simple try, which Eastwood converted.

After this the Maoris bucked up and took the play to the county line, but the forwards over-ran the ball. A tamo period followed, until Bell spoiled a good chance by knoeking-on close to the line. After thirty-five minutes, the Maori forwards hooked the ball. King! passing to Mete, who punted. Potaka snapped the leather up, and drawing the fullback, passed to Falwasser, who scored. Potaka’s kick failed. Yorkshire 5 Maoris 3 Pelham showed up in some enterprising play, then Phillips dribbled, and kicking hard past Hamell, raced Thompson for the ball and touched down. Potaka was again unsuccessful with the kick. The half-time scores were Maoris 6 Yorkshire 5 On resuming, the Maori forwards’ bustling play, placed' them on the attack, Phillips almost getting over after Potaka and Mete had handled the ball. A free-kick enabled Phillips to add three points from the touch line. Maoris 9 Yorkshire 5 A brilliant Yorkshire dribble saw the ball go dead. Then Bell knocked on into Fletcher’s hands, the latter making a good run and punting to Eastwood, who passed to Adams, who potted a good goal amidst immense enthusiasm. Maoris 0 Yorkshire 9 The scores wore now nine all, but the Maoris were not to be denied. After a period of loose fast play, Bell snapped up the ball, passed to Stewart, who just as he was tackled threw a long pass to Barclay close to the line, the captain crossing. Phillips however was unable to add the goal. .Maoris 13 Yorkshire 9 The Maoris maintained the pressure and Potaka tried to force his way over the line. The forwards got across after a loose rush, but a five yards scrum was ordered. Yorkshire hooked the ball, but Barclay intercepted Fletcher’s pass, and scored a second try, Potaka kicking an easy goal just before time was called, the game ending
