A picture which deals with the hunt for gold in Australia’s outback is “Sunrise,” which will be seen at (he Lyceum Theatre to-night and tomorrow. How many of us actually realise the risks to which men will go in the hunt for gold ? These risks they will always lake to the end of time. The story of "Sunrise” is laid around this search for wealth, and the big scene is the reproduction of an actual happening in West Australia 20 years ago. A miner named Verrasehaten was trapped on one of the balconies of the 12th level, he climbed on to a. ledge, and it looked if he were doomed to a, slow death by either suffocation or starvation heforo the shaft could be pumped dry again. Another miner named Hughes, who had had diving experience, suggested going in to him; a diver’s suit was rushed by special train from Perth. 100 miles away. Hughes descended the shn.ft in it, found his way under the water through the tunnel, and found the imprisoned miner on a ledge just above the water’s edge. After assuring him of help and leaving him with food, Hughes returned the way he had come; he then made this trip daily until the pumps were going again and (ho shaft, dry. when (he imprisoned miner whs rescued. Hughes was (tie recipient of messages and gifts from all parts of (he world, on aeeimnt of his uni<|Ue act of heroism, and was also presented with (he Royal Humane Society’s Medal which is only given on very rare occasions. This scene is the elimax of "Sunrise,” and is a fitting finale to a. very fine Aus.tradian production.
