AMATEUR ATHLETICS
ANNUAL report. The annual meeting of the Feilding Amateur Athletic dub will be hold in the Library this evening, when the following report will bo presented:— Tho committee desires to express its satisfaction at tho progress made during the past year. Tho season concluded can certainly bo regarded as a successful one, although it is to ho regretted that it was not found possible to hold an annual sports gathering, the principal reason being lack of funds. However, a series of evening meetings and one Saturday afternoon meeting proved very interesting, the entries being very satisfactory. Mr. Rosoman was this year the winner of tho Seotnoy Cup for most points scored at these meetings, Mr. Godfrey being the winner of Mr. Sowcrby’s trophy for the two-mile event. Tho club started the season with about seven registered members —that is, members who could compete at onlsida meetings—and finished tho season with about 30, equal to Palmerston North. A pleasing feature of the season was that wc, through Mr. Kelly, were again successful in winning tho Bankers Cup at Palmerston North, making (he fourth year in succession. During tho past season some of our members competed all round the district, and it is pleasing (o note tho success that attended their efforts.
In considering tho balance-shoot, your committee is pleased to record a credit of over £7, which, taking everything into consideration, should be considered satisfactory, as there arc no outstanding liabilities, and during the season we had to pay about 14 unforeseen expenses. In tho cycling events our efforts wore not so successful, tho interest, shown not being so keen as in previous seasons. However, at the Saturday afternoon meeting we put on three events to decide the Bain Cup and tho Robson Cup, Mr. Red Icy being the winner of both. The same rider, it is pleasing to note, came tilth in the Palmerston North to Wellington road race.
The thanks of tho club arc due to the press for the assistance given during the season, also the Kowhai Park committee, and Mr. Smith for the use of his office during tho season. •Messrs. Smith and Parsonage arc the two committee men due to retire, and thanks are due to them for their help during the season. Thanks are also due to Mr. S. Amadio for carrying out the duties of handlcapper during the past year.
