CUNNINGHAM SHIELD COMPETITION., The annual competition for the shield presented by Mr. P. Cunningham, of Palmerston North, for lifesaving teams from district primary schools, was held yesterday in the Central School baths. Only two schools competed, Terrace End ana College street. The former won with 43 3.5 points to the latter’s 363.5. The shield, which has been open for competition for four years, was won last year by Central School. The teams which consist of two boys and two girls, have to go through the various methods of rescue first (fully) on land and then two of the motions in the water. Back stroke, breast-stroke and object diving arc also part of (the drill. The judges, Messrs. G. Neal and Collier,, said that yesterday’s was one of the best exhibitions of water-work for children they had yet seen and complimented the couches on their fine training of the boj's and gins.
