SPORTS FACALITIES FOR FOXTON

AMBr CTJS PUBLIC EFFORT. [From Our Own Correspondent.] A public meeting was hold in the Town Hall supper rooms last night. Present: Mr. W. T. Newell (in the chair), F. Wools, E. R. Barron, D. Christie, F. Mast'-. C. Proctor. J. Mcknight, R. Warwick, and Mr. Delaney, secretary and organiser. The chairman explained that after the last meeting, he thought it would be a good idea to get the racing club to join in with the effort as no doubt it would help greatly in making the proposal a greater success. He had approached some of the prominent officials of other clubs, which had approved of the idea. At a meeting held the previous Thursday, the following resolution was carried: "That this club is willing to join with the other sporting bodies in the local art union, subject to the scheme being approved by the Racing Club committee.” The chairman said he would like the meeting to express an opinion on his action and it was endorsed. Mr. Mason asked a question regarding the allocation of funds. What was the position of the racecourse? The chairman said it was a Crown grant vested in trustees for the benefit of sports bodies in Foxton and not only for horse racing. It would be necessary to delete the word “amateur” in the application of the art union and this was agreed to. Mr. Delaney outlined his proposed organisation. It was decided to adopt his plan, with the alteration that the first prize be £3OO, second, £IOO, third £SO, two of £lO, four of £5 and ten of £l. The chairman said it would be wise at the present stage to decide on the proportion each body should receive of the amount raised, and Messrs. McMurray and Woods moved that the maximum allocated to baths be £2OOO, the balance, if any, to be allocated as under: —Racing Club, 50 per cent.; Bowling Club, 10 per cent; tennis, 10 per cent; Easton Park, 10 per cent; Victoria Park, 10 per cent; other existing sports bodies, 10 per cent.
