USE OF AEROPLANES
CAPTAIN WILKINS’ FAITH. ANTICIPATION OF SUCCESS. LONDON, Feb 23. In an interview at Seward, Alaska. Captain G. H. Wilkins said: "There are three basic reasons why I believe I will disprove the views of Amundsen and MacMillan that the aeroplane is not yet fit to cope with the Arctic. “Firstly, my Fokker aeroplanes will have a greater non-stop flying range than Amundsen’s or MacMillan’s machines had. "Secondly, I will fly In the early spring, while Amundsen flew in May and MacMillan in August. "Thirdly, my insurance against starvation in casp, the aeroplanes are wrecked will be a method of Ice travel which neither Amundsen nor MacMillan practised.” The "Daily News” says Captain Wilkins’ polar adventure would (test Stefansson’s theories, firstly, as to the feasibility of a regular trans-polar air service, and, secondly, whether it is possible for a strong and active man to live in the country in ithe polar regions. These are more important considerations than racing Amundsen.
