The Foreign Affairs committee of the Reichstag adopted a resolution declaring that the retention of seventyfive thousand occupation troops in the Rhineland would mean the serious disappointment of justifiable German expectations and would be wholly incompatible with the political situation created by the signing of the Locarno agreements. The Committee requested the Government In view of the impending political decisions of foreign powers, to continue its energetic efforts to bring about a reduction of the occupation forces to the strength of the pre-war German garrison. DIPLOMATIC PROTESTS. STATEMENTS OF STRENGTH SOUGHT. (Received Sunday 7 p.m.) BERLIN. January 16. The German Ambassadors, in Allied capitals have been Instructed to ask the respective governments for a statement of the number of troops the Allies Intend to retain in occupied territory. The Ambassadors have been instructed to point out that any increase in the second and third Rhineland zones from the first zone will be regarded as a violation of the Versailles Treaty and the so-called gentlemen’s agreement of Locarno.
