FOUR DAYS ENTOMBED
RESCUED SIAN MOURNED AS DEAD. [By Electric Cable—Copyright.3 [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Assoolatlon.] (Received Sunday, 7 p.m.) LONDON, January IS. After being entombed for four days and nights in a coal mins and mourned as dead, John Poole was rescued from the Wathmain colliery, near Rotherham, he said: “My lamp was burled and! I was left in total darkness. I had about twenty-five yards la which to move, but the roof was low and I had to remain In a crouch ing position. My only companion was my saw. upon which I believe, 1 made holes, and playing tunes to pass the time. I suffered most from thirst and sucked a stone to .allay it. Then came periods of semi-consciousness, In which I thought I Saw hospital nurses passing and repassing with shirts In their bands. I was perished with cold end wondered when my time for a shirt would come.” Poole was conscious when found and recognised his comrades -among the rescuers, then collapsed.
