ABBE ASSAULTED BY QUEER BORDEAUX SECT

Had Cut Adrift From Membership of Order

(Received Sunday, 7 p.m.) PARIS, January IC. The Abbe Desnoyers appeared before the Court and was examined f° r three hours. He declared he had no connection at present, with the Bordeaux Sect, of whom Madame Megmm was the head, but admitted he had attempted exorcism in the case of two voung women belonging to the Order. H e severed his connection with the order in September, 1928, when Madame, suggested to him that the time had come to proclaim a new religion wherein sh e hoped he would become one of the twelve apostles. She offered him the choice of being the now Saint Peter, or the new Saint Paul. Horrified at this proposal, the Abbe said that hence forth he would have no connection with the Order.

A violent attack on the Abbe Dosnoyers, of Bombon, near Melun, is featured In the “Press.” stated a cable dated January 5 from Paris. After Mass twelve persons threw pepper in his eyes, bound him, stripped him ot clothes, and flogged him alternately. His cries attracted gendarmes, who arrested the assailants. They declare that they had come expressly from Bordeaux to chastise the Abbe, whom they accused of witchcraft. They blamed him for family misfortunes. The assailants were charged with conspiracy, assault, and outraging morality. • v Behind the attack is the weardest story. Madame Mesthin had a statue of the Virgin which wept, but ceased to weep when removed to the convent. She replaced it with a facsimile from Milan, which did not weep, but ex* haled a sweet perfume. That also ceased, Madame Meamin began to suffer, then accused the Abba of Witchcraft, despite the fact that the authorities demonstrated 'the absurdity of miraculous statues.
