LAMP OF KNOWLEDGE
LIT BY ROCKEFELLER INSTITUTE . 1 OIL. (Received Sunday 7 p.m.) [By Electric Cable—Copyright.J [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] KEW YORK. January IS, Officials of the Laura Spellman Rockefeller memorial declare that any announcement at present regarding proposed reciprocal research scholarships in economics for Australian and American students would be premature, because nothing definite had yet been decided. They stated the visit of Professor Copeland would offer an opportunity to discuss the matter in detail. Doctor George Vincent, director of the Rockefeller Foundation, In a recent address to the Foreign Correspondents' Association, j pointed out that the Foundation, in arranging facilities for International study for Scholars and research students, was anxious that conditions of the fullest liberty should be maintained. He pointed out that the Foundation in no sense was desirous of limiting the scope of the researches, or acting In a paternal manner, or even demanding publication of the studies made by students.* The foundation was desirous only of bringing the researcher and his materials together in the Interests of the advancement of knowledge and the furtherance of human good. It Is understood that among the American Universities and colleges at which students may seek facilities for study are Harvard, Princeton, Tale, Columbia and Chicago, also Oberlin College in Ohio, which has lately become one of the best-known schools for economic research.
