Mr Lloyd George, at the Liberal dinner in the House of Commons, in proposing the health of the Earl of Oxford, said; "If I am the obstacle to Liberal unity, I am preprged to withdraw. I do not want tocSl the cause of the Liberal Party failing to get together." The Earl of Oxford said that there was no reason for anyone to contemplate withdrawal. What they had to do was to try to work together. BY-ELEC—ON RESULT. Owing to the appointment of Lieut Colonel W. Guinness as Minister of Agriculture, a by-election was held for Bury St. Edmunds, resulting:— W. Guinness (C.) .. 14,700 George Nicholls (L.) .. 8,703 The figures for the 1924 election wore, —W. Guinness (C.), 16,073; J. A. Day (L.) 9392.
