ASSOCIATION OF NURSERYMEN
PALMERSTON COUNCIL. The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Council of the New Zealand Association of Nurserymen was hold last evening, when Mr P. T. Conway occupied the chair. There was a representative gathering of the trade.
The annual report was read by the honorary secretary (Mr W. Y. Kingsbeor). From this it appeared that the work had gone ahead steadily during the year. General business had been nearly up to the average, notwithstanding that the excessively wot spring had hampered the work. Bedding plants, however, had been seriously effected by the unseasonable weather in the early part of the season, but latterly tho weather had shown a great improvement. Many lines of hedge, shelter and forest trees Were le'ft unsold at the end of the season, largely, undoubtedly, as a re. suit of State competitVm. The. great economic loss sustained thereby was regretted. Tho branch’s membership stood at the same number as last year. The Council regretted to report that during last month one of the old pioneers in the nursery business (Mr F. .1. W. Just) passed away. To the family the deepest sympatny of the Council was extended. The election of local officers resulted; President; Mr T. K. Conway; vice president; Mr A. W. Just; secretary and treasurer; Mr W. V. Klngsbeer; assistant secretary; Mr R. K. Harrison. The nomination of Mr Thos. Waugh of Dower Halt, as Dominion president was endorsed. Mr Jns. Allan, of Panmure, was nominated as North Island vice.presidont. A general discussion was held on the work for next year. It was decided to hold a series of meetings during the year at at least three of which lectures on various subjects would be arranged for. Details were left In the hands of the executive to arrange. Severn 1 remits to conference were arranged. one being “that this Council invite conference 1327 to Palmerston North.” A standing vote of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the Tate Mr Just. . . Nr G. W. A. Green. Dominion Organiser delivered an interesting address on plant Improvement. the Institute of Horticulture, and the need for a status In the gardening pro Cession. „ Votes of thanks to Mr Green, the outgoing executive and the chairman l-iroue-ht a most successful meeting to a close. _
