PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS.

The Prime Minister (Hon. J. G. Coates) arrived at Christchurch from Wellington yesterday. He had a tusy morning receiving deputations, and in the evening attended the annual dinner of the Canterbury Industrial Association, and a complimentary social and presentation to Mr George Witty, ex-M.P.. To.day ho pays a visit of inspection to Lake Coleridge hydro works, with his departmental officers and returns to Wellington in the evening.

A Nelson message reports the death of Dr. Henry O’Brien Deck, a wellknown medical practitioner at Motuoka for many years.

Mr Geo. A. Green, Dominion Organiser of the Association of Nurserymen is in Palmerston North, and leaves for Wairarapa to-day. As the wife of a Knight of the Garter takes precedence over a Dame Grand Cross, Mrs. Chamberlain will probably be known as Lady Chamberlain. Mr. Thos. Scott, well-known in “movie” circles, is in Palmerston North for a few days with the latest Harold Lloyd picture “Girl Shy.” He was for a time doing relief managerial work in Palmerston North last year.

The friends of Miss Mary Robbie daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Robbie, late of Levin and now of Haunui, Ekotahuna, will learn with regret that she was operated on for appendicitis vestorday In a private hospital in Palmerston North. She is progressing favourably after the ordeal.

The death has occurred in St. Mary's Convent, Ponsonby, of pioneer Sister Mary Augustine, aged 81 years. She arrived in New Zealand from Dublin in 1874. She had already given proof of her brilliant mental gifts and high academic attainments at South Abbey, Dalkoy, and Sion Hill, Dublin, ns well as at various schools on the Continent, and was at once given a post in the State teaching service. It was in IS7C that she entered St. Mary’s Convent, where her life as a Sister of Mercy and her devoted sorvice made her known to a wide circle of friends, and to the pupils passing through the school in the past 50 years.
