NIGHT IN TUNNEL

FATAL FALL OFF TRAIN. [Per Press Association,] DUNEDIN, Last Night. - After twelve hours in the Mikiwaka tunnel, with his left leg nearly severed, Robert Munro. a single man aged 27 residing at Warrington, was found by a surfaceman yesterday morning shortly after 8 o’clock. Although conscious the injured man was very weak from loss of blood and shock, Munro was a passenger by the 6 p.m. train from Dunedin on Saturday and -when found was lying in the tunnel clear of the rails having apparently fallen off a train. He had the presence of mind to crawl clear of the line. Other trains passed through the tunnel -before he was discovered. A doctor and ambulance were summoned and the sufferer admitted to hospital at 11.80 this morning but died at 1.45 p.m.
