NEGLECT TO NOTIFY
DOCTOR FINED THE MAXIMUM. HAMILTON. November 28. A charge laid against Douglas Martin. medical practitioner, of Ngaruawahia ,of failing to notify a case of puerperal septicaemia was heard today. The duty of a doctor in regard to tho matter was briefly referred to by Mr. Gillies (Crown Solicitor). In tho case in question he said the rise in the patient’s temperature must have led Dr. Martin to suspect septicaemia. Knowing her duty the nurse had notified the department without reference to Dr. Martin.
The Magistrate, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, said he could not too seriously regard an offence of this nature. He was glad to say for the good name of the medical profession that prosecutions of the kind were rare. The bad feature of tha case was that Dr. Martin had previously been convicted for a like offence. The maximum fine, £lO, was imposed.
