FEAR OF HOSPITAL
MAORI WOMAN’S DEATH. [Per Press Association.] GISBORNE, Last Nght. At the inquest held at Te Karaka, concerning the death of a Maori woman named Haeata Ananea, aged forty-five years, evidence was given that deceased was the member of a shearing gang and was taken ill about a fortnight ago. ‘She saw Dr. Kahlemberg, who advised her to go to hospital but she refused and returned to the gang on Saturday last. On Tuesday she was with the gang, but the next day was taken ill and died on the way to Gisborne. Dr, Gunn said that death was due to heart failure, due to inflammation of the lungs. If deceased had acted on Dr. Kahlenberg’s advice and had gone to hospital she would have had a chance of recovery. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned.
