KEAUTII'YING SOCIETY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Foxton Beautifying Society was held in the rest room on Friday cevnlng, Mr M. E. Perreau (president) presided over a good attendance. The annual report showed that the work carried out during the year was as, follows: —The Society, with the help of the Borough Council, had acquired from the Justice Department, a piece of ground adjoining the Court House and Town Hall. The fencing had' been moved back and re-erected, concrete kerbing and six seats with concrete base placed at intervals. The ground had been levelled and laid down in grass. Street trees had been replaced where necessary and tree guards attended to. A concrete path in Ihakara Gardens was in the course of construction. The Borough Council had made a donation to the funds and had also granted a benefit picture entertainment, the total amount being £2 3 4/. The committee wished to record its appreciation of the work done by the caretaker during the year, also to thank all those who donated trees and shrubs for planting on Arbor Day. The president, in speaking to tho report thanked the secretary and committee for work done during the year. Receipts for the year were £24 7/11, and expenditure £99 11/9. Tho main terns of expenditure were caretaker’s wages £SO 3/6, trees £4 10/, and Court House ground improvements £34 14/3. The year dosed with a credit balance of £156 15/. Election of Officers. President; Mr M. E. Perreau (Mayor): vice-presidents: Mrs F. Robinson and Rev. W. Walton; committee: Mesdames Perreau, Moore, McMurray, P. Easton, Delaney, and Miss Ross, Messrs. Christie, Mason. Winstanley, Admore, Rev. Peryman, and Delaney: secretary and treasurer. Mr F. Rimmer; auditor: Mr E. Jackson. General. It was agreed to transfer the sum of £SO from the Post Office Savings Bank, to Bonk of New Zealand for operation. It was also decided that the footpath on Court House plot bo laid down in concrete and that prices for the work be obtained, and that Mr R. Owen bo asked’to plant climber roses on the Court House fence, the plants to be supplied by the Society. The Society approved of the proposed improvements to be carried out by the Borough Council at Victoria Park. Tho secretary was instructed to write to the Council, asking that it give consideration to tho carrying out of the original scheme, as planned, Cor Easton Park. The president reported that all tho trees planted ( in streets had recently been attended to, and were in good order. i HOCKEY. On Saturday afternoon tho ladies tried conclusions with a scratch team of men attired in skirts and jerseys. At the conclusion of a very amusing game honours were even, the score being 2 all. “KEEP ON SMILING.” At a young people’s social held in the Presbyterian Sunday School Room on Friday evening it was decided to form a K.O.S. Club, the object of which is to promote fellowship and social intercourse of a wholesome kind among the young people. Mrs F. McDonald was elected president. It was decided to hold socials fortnightly and that each pay Gd per month. Supper was served by the young ladies of the Bible Class, and a most enjoyable evening shared by all.
