SHEARING SEASON IN LONDON

A WF.r.T.-WOOLLED IrAMliu [By Electric Cahlft— Copyright] and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Wednesday, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 2. Confidence men who are known to be devising tricks for Dominion and American visitors to the Empire Ex* hibition secured first blood from an Australasian visitor who reported to the police that he gave a party of men £2OOO, representing the whole of his savings. He must now return to the Antipodes before the Exhibition opens. Using the so-called Paris Bourse trick the men persuaded their victim to embark in small gambles on the rise and fall of the franc. The results being satisfactory the man was asked to join the party in a big deal, being told it was a great favour to be admitted to the group. After two weeks the Australasian handed over the money and the tricksters immediately disappeared. The man then went to the police.
