In brilliant, weather and on a dry ground, Southland, 27 (six tries, three converted, and a penalty), defeated South Canterbury. 3 (one unconverted try). For Southland, Shand scored four tries, and K. Oughton and Richardson one each. O'Connor scored for South Canterbury. WAIKATO v. WEt/LINGTON. VISITORS DEFEATED, 18—11. HAMILTON, Last Night. The match Wellington v. Waikato. was played here to-day before a largo crowd. The visitors were without the services of Nicholls and Moffat, who had returned south. It was a fast game, with play up and down field, the visitors showing good passing. At half-time, the scores were: Waikato, 10; Wellington, 6. In the second spell, play was again fairly even, with good passing rushes by each side. The game ended: Waikato, 13; Wellington, 11.
