AMIABLE LABOUR THEORIES. NOT SHORT CUT TO TREASURY BENCHES. CAPITALIST SYSTEM UPHELD. (From our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. Members o£ the Labour Party clashed severely with Mr. Parr Co-day. " Why don't members of the Labour Parly come down to tin tacks ? " asked Mr. Parr. "They are always up in the clouds. Their theories arc most amiable, but how are they to be applied. One must admit there are defects in the capitalist system—there are evils attaching to every system—but can any honorable member tell mo that the lot pf the under dog' has not been improved immensely in the last 40 or 50 years under the capitalist .system ? It is idle to deny that even under this most loathed capitalist system, the working 1 people of the world have made great progress. My belief is that, the -capitalist system can be so improved and so amended step by step, by the process of evolution, tha r it will fit the needs of the humblest worker in the community. It should be made a slave to our needs, not our master." Labour Members: "No!" Mr. Parr: " What do you have in plaee of it ? " Mr. Monteifh: "Something better." Mr. Parr: They talk about the socialisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange:. That is what they offer. They want the nationalisation of every industry in fho ■community. Tiny say this is going to bring the millenium, but history has disproved that the socialisation of everything- made for the benefit or mankind.." Mr. Parry: "You are n Of serious." Mr. Parr: "Cod forbid that (his country should ever go in for suppression of the press and free speech, like Russia." Air. Howard: " Don't forget the system." Mr. Pari - : "It seems to me to be idle io discuss people who say mankind is going' to be saved by the socialisation of (he world. I believe our friends of the Labour Party will be sitting where we are to-day (Labour hear hears), but they will never get here until they mend their ways." Mr. McKeen: "We are coming." The Speaker: " Order! " The Speaker asked that there lie no interruptions, as fii e previous speaker, Mr. Munro, had had a fair hearing. Mr. Parr: "The Party will never reach these benches until it hauls down this flag of the socialisation of every industry."
