MAORIS DOWN SOUTH CANTERBURY. VISITORS SET A EAST PACE. [Per Press Association.] TIMARU, Last Night. The Maoris opposed South Canterbury on the Caledonian grounds this afternoon, before an attendance of several thousands. The ground was in a very sodden condition, but the pace was fast throughout. The Maoris were superior in handling and tackling, the backs playing a very effective offensive and defensive, game, the home team being weak in tackling. Two of the Maoris' scores were obtained by brilliant passing bouts, in which all the backs participated, the line moving with fine pace and understanding, Taiapa, P.el] and Roberts crossed for the visiting team, Jacobs scoring twice.
