AMERICAN GOVERNOR OF SAMOA.
DELTGHTED WITH NEW ZEALAND. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Last Night The U.S. patrol boat Ontario left for Pago Pago and Samoa this morning. Prior to her departure. Captain Pollock expressed the appreciation of himself and his officers of the hospitalities and courtesies extended to them in New Zealand and said: "You certainly have a wonderful country. Plans for the future of New Zealand have impressed me more than any-' thing else, not only by their extent, but by the farsightedness shown in them. The people of New Zealand are a live people, and, judging from what they did in the world war, when they have started off to do 1 something, nothing is going to stop them. We are leaving with ineffaceable memories. The hospitality of His Excellency and Lady Jellicoe and their Excellencies' many kindnesses and courtesies, in common with the hospitality of your Government and people, call for more eloquence than the American Governor of Sajiioa commands."
Captain Pollock also acknowledged the courtesies received from the naval authorities, remarking: "We were able to ask for anything we wanted, just as though we had been part of the British Navy."
Farewell visits were paid to Captain Pollock by the Governor-General, the Mayor, and the chairman of the Harbour Board.
