BACONIAN CONTROVERSY.
TO BE DEBATED IN PALM. ERSTON NORTH. At the close of his address to the Palmerston North Bunch Club yesterday, Mr. F. Byron Brown, who is well known in musical and elocutionary circles in Wellington, said it had come under his notice that a gentleman in Palmerston North was a strong believer in the Baconian theory. In that case he wished to challenge the gentleman to public, debate. He could at least prove that if Shakespeare did not write the plays, Bacon did not either. Mr. J. H. Stevens rose to accept the challenge, intimating that lie was the gentleman referred to. It wa3 then agreed that the debate be held under the auspices of the Bunch Club at a date convenient to both gentlemen.
