RUGBY FOOTBALL.
MEETING OF MANAWATU UNION. The regular weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union was held last night, .Air A. M. Ongley occupying the chair. It was resolved that the date, 24th June, for a representative match between the Horowhenua and Manawatu teams, be confirmed. It was decided to write to the Bush Union informing it that Manawatu could not see its way to play a representative match tins season. The South Canterbury Union wrote accepting August 30th as the date of a game uetween their representatives and Manawatu, to be played at Palmerston North. The Rangitikei Sub-Union wrote asking for a game with the Manawatu .ienior and third grade representatives. —lt was found unable to arrange for a date. Permission was granted the schools of Palmerston North to play a seven-a-sidc tournament on the Showgrounds on Wednesday, May 31st, for the purpose of raising funds for the laying out of children's recreation 1 grounds. '< Owing to the poor response shown by the town teams in entering for the seven-a-sid\. tournament, it was agreed to extend the closing of entries : until next Tuesday. Entries received i to date are as follow: Feilding Club, a senior and a junior team; Kia Toa, a senior and junior team; Old Boys, one senior and two junior teams; . Jackeytown, a senior team; Tokomaru, Varsity (Wellington), and Bunnythorpe, a junior team each. West End was the only team to eni ter for the schopls' competition. It was decided to write to the Auckland Union inviting it to allow its louring team to play in Palmerston North, and offering it 50 per cent of the net gate receipts. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY.
