THE LUNCH CLUB.

The Citizens’ Luncheon Club has in preparation the next quarter’s syllabus of thirteen weekly addresses, upon widely-varying subjects, of interest to the community, by local speakers. Inserted as a condition in this programme is an excellent provision, by which any distinguished available visitor may be substituted for the speaker of tiie day, who then stands down to the bottom of the list, or is carried over to the next quarter. The chairman for each day is also named in the programme. This plan ensures continuity-, and enables the committee to Introduce to the Club many eminent speakers from abroad, or from other parts of the Dominion. The Club is also in touch with the various Rotary Clubs in other towns with a view to being advised of the movements of notable visitors who may be passing through our town. The constitution of the Lunch Club is exceedingly simple, and affords our business and professional men an opportunity for an instructive hour's divers.on once a week without interfering with other social or business arrangements. To new arrivals, visitors, or other residents, it gives the opportunity o£ knowing, and meeting friends, and more important still is the fact that our young men are being trained amid circumstances of mutual pleasure and profit to preside over meetings, to learn the privileges and duties of true citizens, and to take part in the deliberations and discussions which tend to the betterment of the community. During the current quarter the Club has secured addresses of outstanding merit from Miss Annette Kellerman, Mr J. C. Herdsman, Bishop Locke, and Mr Alex Mathieson, besides nine of quite considerable interest from local citizens. The Club has been good enough to convey a special vote of thanks to the editor of tills paper for his efforts in their behalf. We are only harrying out the avowed policy of assisting to the full extent every such unselfish movement in our midst. It will be our pleasure to extend such assistance to an institution the committee and members of which show so earnest a desire to help tire community. Last year’s president was 31 r 31. If. Oram. This year 3lr I). Morrison fields the coveted position.
