Mr A. MacLaclan, who arrived a few clays ago from Sydney, will reside in Palmerston after the New Year. Mr Ronald A. Wilton, son of Mr Wilton, of Mauriceville and Waltipu, has purchased the property of Mr T. W. P. Hardy, of Masterton.
Mr \V. Gataites, accountant at the Invercargill branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, has been promoted to the head oiliee at Wellington. Mr E. Inglis, of tlie Gore branch, will succeed Air Gataites in Invercargill. The death occurred on Tuesday night of one of Wellington’s oldest identities, .Mr Paul Coffey, aged 87 years. Born in London, he Joined the British Navy and was engaged in the carrying of troops to the Bosphorous Sea during the Crimean war. He was invalided out of the Navy and came to New Zealand in 1857. He was one of the original founders of the Wellington Harbour Board. From 2 to 4 to-day and to-morrow Father Christmas will be "at home” to visitors in Collinson and Cunninghame’s underground cavern, where electric lighting lills the place with gladness instead of gloom. A present for each vistor, a free seat for the fairy playetto, sixpence for old and young. Saturday from XI to 0 with intervals.*
