The annual school sports and prize-I giving celebrated each year with thei ureamug up ceremonies was held in the school grounds on Tuesday last, there being a good attendance of the public and the parents generally. The committee and the teacners, Mr A. S. .Burns and Miss E. Duncan, worked hard to ensure a good time for tire children, and their efforts were well appreciated by those present. Charteris pole vault, which was in the vicinity of nine feet, which must be considered good for a schoolboy. Sir A. S. Burns and family are leaving to-day for Plimraerfon, were they intend spending several weeks at the se’aside. „ . , , , Shearing is just about finished round the district and farmers will shortly be giving their attention, to haymaking, and, judging from appearances, there will be some record crops this season. The local dairy company is reported to have paid out 1/2 per lb for butter-fat supplied for November. A big’ difference to 2/5 paid for the corresponding month last year. Mr V. A. Phillips has again been the successful tenderer for the mail contract between Apiti and I* eliding. . Several new telephones have been installed in the district lately, a gang of linesmen from the Eeilding end doing the work. . The pipe band organised by Mr J. Charteris some months ago is reported to be well forward and is to give an open-air performance in full regalia on Saturday night next. A wee bit of Scotch should waken the town up a little. , , The Presbyterian Church Ladies Guild arc holding a, bazaaar and supper in the temporary hall on Saturday night next. , . . The local pipe band is organising a social and dance, to be held on the 2nd of January, in aid of their funds. Good luck to them. At the last meeting of the local Show Society, it was decided to abandon the 1922 show owing to lack of support.
