Mr ,T. H. Naylor, of Masterton, was a visitor to Palmerston -North yesterday. Mr T>. Wishart, who has been head steward at the County ("Jul) at Hastings for six or seven years, lias been appointed manager of the Manawatu Club, at Palmerston North, in succession to Mr Sofield. The death occurred at Huntly West on Sunday of Mr L. B. Harris, senr., one of the oldest settlers of the Waikato, at the age of eighty-eight years. Deceased landed in New Zealand about the year 1852. Mr A. C. Kerr and J. Roil, who were seriously injured last week, the former by a fall from a motor cycle, and the latter while bushfelling at Ngaturi, are both now progressing satisfactorily in the Pahiatua District Hospital.

A very old resident of Wanganui, Mrs Elizabeth Greenway, relict of the lute Mr Robert Greenway, died on Monday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs G. S. Russell, of Wanganui East. She was highly respected in Wanganui and in New Plymouth, with her husband she went through the strenuous times of the Maori War. Besides Mrs Russell, she leaves a son, Mr Maurice Greenway, of Waver ley. At the Methodist Church, Morrinsville, the marriage was celebrated recently of Mr Charles Rowlands, youngest son of Mrs T. Rowlands, of Palmerston North, and formerly of Hiwinui, and Miss Gladys Hills, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. W. Hills, of Featherston Street, Palmerston North, and also late of Hiwinui. The parties were very popular in the Hiwinui district. They arc settling in the Morrinsville district, where Mr Rowlands is following farming pursuits. An Auckland exchange contains an obituary notice referring! to Mr Samson Ashton, who died last week at Birkenhead, aged 93. He was in the service of the New Zealand Railways Department, and was one of the oldest locomotive drivers in 'New Zealand. He had also been employed as engineer on the 'Frisco mail steamer City of Nebraska in the early Auckland days, and in a similar capacity on the old H.M.S.
