BOXING.
The big event to be put on by the Manawatu Boxing Association on next Monday promises to go with a big swing. The star event will be the biggest in the light-weight division ever put on in the Dominion. This is borne out by the fact that the present holder, Murray (champion) has been beaten on points on three try-outs with Pat Gleeson; yet on the other hand it has been found that his opponent Dwyer has met Gleeson on two occasions. In the former he drew in a fight over 20 rounds and no later than last Monday, at Auckland, beat this good lighter on points in a full journey. The fistic career of the participants is too lengthy to go into —• suffice it to say that Murray has to his belt such scalps as Jack Lofty, Bill Campbell, T. McKenzie, Jack Daniels, Tom Phoenix, G. Lavinge, H. Hawkesworth, Bert Blatch, Pat Humphies (all Australia) and in New Zealand such good fighters as Herbitt McCoy and Frank O'Neill. Dwyer's record is no less impressive—his victories include Roy Victor, Frank O'Connor, Mick Rutherford, Frank O'Neill, Tim Robinson, Alex Pasco, Tom Sullivan, Jimmy L,awson, Bob Williams, Jack Keenan, Paul Hancock and Pat Gleeson. The records of these two men go to prove that a momentous fight—insofar as light-weights are concerned —has fallen to the lot of the Manawatu Association. Its foresight has been demonstrated in view of last Monday's decision at Auckland and bearing in mind that this great attraction will be heralded by five of the best amatfeur bouts which ever graced the fistic arean locally, there should not be* a dull moment. The Association have been careful to study its patrons' comfort, so far as music is concerned. Smith's Orchestra has been engaged. The box plan is now open at Oates' Music Store, and present or future brokers will have to hustle in order to secure a seat.
