After a sensational trial, the Court acquitted the management of the Little Theatre, and eighteen actors and actresses who were responsible for the production of Arthur Schnitzleu’s wellknown play “Regcn.” The Judge declared that the play was based on a moral idea, namely, the unattractivenoss of illicit love. The trial lasted for a fortnight. The prosecution asked for the Imprisonment of the actors and actresses, on the ground that the play was immoral, and the music played iDetween the acts was dangerous to the public morals. During the trial the Judge and jury attended a special performance of the play at the theatre, which was regarded as a Court of Law. Applause and hissi;ig was stopped by the police. During the trial, priests, officials, authors, critics and working men gave evidence. Professor Brunnen said the play was a disgrace to the Fatherland, but Dr. Orborn, the famous dramatic critic, said that if “Regen’' was indecent, “Othello” was more so.
