FIRE IN SYDNEY.

DUE TO EXPLOSION IN FILM STORE. CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Last Night. An explosion which occurred on Saturday afternoon carried off the roof of the Overseas Service Film Company’s premises in Park Street, and threw blazing debris In all directions. Luckily, few people were in the street at the time. The‘flames quickly spread to a terrace of five adjoining and comparatively small shops. The top floors of these wore gutted, and the lower floors were badly damaged. The firemen, by great efforts, prevented the fire from spreading to big adjoining premises, and to others across the street, where the explosion shattered many windows. The flying fragments gave the flames a good hold, and three people in a shop adjoining the film premises were slightly injured. One woman jumped from an upper window. The damage is estimated at many thousands of pounds. THE ESTIMATED DAMAGE. (Received Monday, 0.30 a.m.) The Sydney Film Company held some five million feet of films, large quantities of which were destroyed and damaged. The cause of the explosion is unknown. The total estimated damage to various premises is in the vicinity of £40,000, besides damage through heat and flying debris. Messrs Murdochs, another big firm across the street, suffered considerably from the autpmatic sprinklers acting.
