ANGORA TREATY.
THE BRITISH OBJECTION. REPLY FROM FRANCE. . A CONCILIATORY NOTE. [By Electric Cable—Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) PARIS, November IS. The French reply to the British objections to the Franco-Kemalist agreement Is cbuched in the friendliest terms. It points out that the evacuation of Turkish territory is dependent on the guarantees of the Turkish minorities, which the Allies are unable to obtain. France believes that this is better than the complete deadlock hitherto prevailing. She is willing that the Angora agreement should later be incorporated in a general agreement with Turkey, which is part of the general settlement of the Near Eastern question. BRITISH MOTIVES SUSPECTED. LONDON, November 18. The “Daily Express” Constantinople correspondent reports that according to reliable information from Angora, the Nationalist Government, believing the British intend to support the Greeks in the forthcoming discussions on the Eastern question, have decided to take energetic action against Mesopotamia, with a view to obliging the British to retain considerable forces there.
