PARLIAMENT.

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. _ The Patents, Designs, and Trade Marks Bill was reported, with amendments by the Statutes Revision Committee. The Council adjourned at 2.35 p.m. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House of Representatives met t at 2.30 p.m. THE TARIFF. Replying to Mr G. W. Sullivan, Mr Massey said he could give his assurance that the recommendations of the Tariff Commission had not been materially departed from in the framing of the tariff, but, of course, adjustments were being made from day to day, |.nd these adjustments be regarded as improvements, not in the interests of protection or Freetrade, but in the interests of the country. He could not say whether the report of the Commissioners would be laid before the Housp until he had an opportunity of consulting Cabinet, but that he had not yet had. LICENSING, • Replying to Mr R. McCallum, Mr Massey said there would be no licensing legislation this session, but he was prepared to set up a committee this session to go into the whole question and report to the House. The Committee would be thoroughly representative of the opinion in the House. SHOPS AND OFFICES. Replying to Dr. Thacker, the Hon. G. J. Anderson said lie hoped to introduce a Shops and Offices Amendment Bill next week. THE RACING REPORT. In the course of a reply to Mr W. Glenn, Mr Massey said he did not think the House had yet heard the last of the Racing Commission’s report. He regarded the report as a very valuably* one, and it would be useful for other purposes. He wished,, however, to make it clear that the Government did not intend introducing further legislation this season.
