The scene of the function was Mr Batchclar's bush property across Fitzherbert Bridge, where, the weather being ideal, a very pleasant afternoon was spent. A programme of sports under the management of Messrs C. Dahl, Danish ViceConsul, and Johansen, secretary, was carried out, the results of which were as follows: —75 Men’s Race, over years; Johston 1, Clausen 2. 100 Yards Men’s Race, 20 to 45 years: P. Lanrelsen 1, I. Petersen 2. Youths High Jump: N. 1, G. Crawford 2. Thread-the-Needle Race: Mrs York 1. Old Ladies’ Race: Mrs Christensen 1, Mrs Petersen 2. 100 Yards Girls’ Race: Miss Christensen 1, Miss A. Johansen 2. Ladies’ Walking Race: Mrs Skully 1. Mrs Merlin 2. During the afternoon Mr Dahl read a letter he had recently received from the Danish Consul in Wellington. The letter advised that H.M. the King o) Denmark had been graciously pleased to accept the expressions of loyalty embodied in a resolution passed at a similar meeting held last year. At the conclusion of the function hearty votes of thanks were passed to Mr Batchelar for the use of the ground and to Messrs Dahl and Johansen for the trouble they had taken in connection with the picnic.
