BROWNED IX TKE BREAKERS.

(Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, Last Night

A sensational accident occurred on the Waikanae beach at 7 o'clock last night, as the result of 'which a married man, Ronald Mclnnes, 51 years of age, was drowned. Deceased, with, another man, Leonard Burne, went fishing in a flat-bottomed boat. The boat drifted within 100 yards of the beach and capsized in the breakers. Both started to swim ashore, then turned back and attempted to right the boat. This failed, and they started again for the shore. Mclnnes called for assistance, and Burne attempted to go back, but was washed away by a breaker. Burne got near the land exhausted and was pulled ashore. Mr and Mrs Ernest Warren and Mr Ralph Morse swam through the breakers to rescuer Mclnnes, who was brought ashore in collapsed state. Artificial respiration was tried for half an hour without result. MOTOR CYCLE AND CAR COLLIDE. MASTERTON, Last Night. A motor car ran into a motor cycle and side-car, occupied by Mr Albert Falconer, his wife and two children, in Masterton this morning-. One of the children was admitted to the hospital suffering from severe injuries, while the others suffered a shaking and abrasions. COLLISION WITH GOODS TRAIN.

LIASTERTON, Last Night

A man named Cornelius Wiley was admitted to tne. Greytown Hospital last night suffering- from serious injuries sustained through a collision with a goods train while riding a motor cycle.

STATION MANAGER SHOOTS HIMSELF.

MASTERTON, Last Night.

Robert McKinnon, married, aged 37 years, who has been a station manager in the district lor some years, shot himself in the head -with a revolver at his home at Lansdowne on Saturday ctt'ternoon, and he died later in the hospital. At the inquest it was shown that he had been sufferingfrom a nervous breakdown, and a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned.

COLLISION IN SQUARE

ELDERLY LADY INJURED

Shortly before 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon a collision, terminating with rather serious results, occurred between a motor car driven by Mr C. W. Blackburn and a. cycle being ridden by Mrs Jane Pickering, of 31 Worcester Street. Mrs Pickering, who is about 70 years of age, -was proceeding from Fitzherbei-t Street through the Square when the car came round the corner opposite the band rotunda. Mrs Pickering apparently lost control of her machine, with the result that she was struck and thrown heavily to the ground. Mrs Pickering, who sustained several facial and bodily cuts and bruises, ■was also suffering from slight concusscion. She was attended by Dr Barnett and later removed home. SERIOUS RESULT OF COLLISION. On Friday evening- at 5 o'clock Miss Thelma May, daughter of Mr W. J. May, of Terrace Street, was proceeding up Duke Street on her bicycle when she was run into by a car driven by Mr Carruthers, of Messrs W. Turner's, Ltd. The accident took place at the corner of Duke and Queen Streets. Miss May was dragged underneath the car and was rendered unconscious. She was attended by Dr Paget and removed to the hospital. Miss May received rather extensive injuries in the nature of cuts and braises which extended all down the left side of her body. Her face ■was badly cut about, and it was found necessary to stitch several of the facial wounds. A slight operation ■was also necessary. Miss May is reported to be making slow progress.
