CLEARING OUT GERMANS. PARIS, Sept. 27. M. Naudean, the Frenc/ war correspondent at Russian headquarters, telegraphing to the Journal, reports a considerable Russian success south of Polesic. The Russians are progressing constantly westward methodically regaining the watercourses which the Germans previously captured at enormous cost. The Russians are everywhere advancing between Polesic and Roumania. There was not a German north of Dwina on the 25th. LONDON, Sept. 27. A French official wireless states that recent orders addressed to the Germans operating in the Dvinsk district, stated: "Tens of thousands of your comrades who courageously pierced the Russian front at Svientziany and are now moving eastward are endangered while Dvinsk remains Russian. It is absolutely necessary to take the town." The wireless adds: "These wishes seem unlikely to be realised."

VIOLENT FIGHTING. Received 12.10 a.m. PETROGRAD, Sept. 27. There has been fighting with extraordinary violence round Dvinsk. Our cavalry defeated a strong enemy column near Lake Tchichiiy. ENEMY SLAUGHTERED OR' CAPTURED. Strong enemy artillery forced the Russians back to the lake district, which is a veritable labyrinth. The Russians fired on the enemy in the marshy ground and surmounted three sides. Half the Germans were exterminated, and the remainder taken prisoner, including three complete companies of Guards. The Austrians evacuated Brody, and suspended fortification works in -other towns in Volhynia.
