TWO FIRE ALARMS
CHIMNEY IN LOMBARD STREET. OUTBREAK IN DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS. At II o'clock last night Palmerston Fire Brigade were summoned to this house of Mr Walker, of Lombard street, where a chimney had caught fire. The lire was promptly suppres- | sed. Another alarm was sounded at 12..">() an outbreak having been discovered by Night watchman Nelson, in the upper storey of the Defence Department's Headquarters just next to tlr.j Clarendon Hotel, and above Watt ';j cycle shop. A fair volume of smoke issued for some time but the fire way extinguished before very much damage was done. The fire started in -i corner near a gas heater.
