A MAORI EJECTMENT
An elderly Maori named Hen&ra Te Whetu was ejected from his o\\ n house at Himatangi recently by E. J. Beale, and in consequence laid a claim before the Palmerston Supreme Court for £OO damages for assault and trespass. It appears that Henara and his coownres of the land had leased it to Beale, but for certain reasons had determined the lease. Henara went to live in the cottage. Beale then, it was alleged, entered upon the land, forcibly expelled Henara therefrom. The case for the defence was that the- plaintiff was a trespasser, that the defendant was the lessee of the land, and that he used only enough force to put the plaintiff and his goods off the property.
Mr Baldwin was counsel for the plaintiff, and Mr Moore for the defendant.
Judgment was reserved,
