THE BIGAMY CASE.

. SENTENCE OP THREE MONTHS Charles Harvey was before Mr , Justice Sim at the Palmerston I Supreme Court "yesterday for sen- ! tence on a charge of bigamy. I j The circumstances as previously ! outlined were that the accused was married to a young woman at New Plymouth, and without stopping to live with her he proceeded off to Waikato, where he became acquainted with an attractive girl aged about 17 years. With her he eloped to Palmerston, whither they were , followed next day by the girl's ; father. The latter insisted on an immediate marriage, and a ceremony i was gone through at the Registrar's j office, near the Public Library, the j parties describing themselves as i bachelor and spinster, j Mr Cooper now submitted evidence of good character and asked for • probation. i It was stated that tne accused had formerly been sent to the Burnham Industrial School for eight years, but owing to his good conduct was released after five years. I His Honour commented on the extreme youth of the girl, which, would prevent him from allowing probation. In view of the accused's good character otherwise, however, he would let the sentence be a light one, and send him to prison for three months.
