THE AUCKLAND STRIKE.
Per Press Association. Auckland, May 6. Arising out of the tramway trouble in Auckland last November when the service was suspended for several hours Sydney Michael Farrelly, tramway motorman, and Edward Fletcher, conductor, were charged before the Arbitration Court to-day with having taken part in a movement intended to produce a strike or lock-out. They pleaded guilty. The representative of the Inspector of Awards said the movement was not supported by the Union. There were 31 motormen and 35 conductors who struck work. Counsel for respondents in asking for a mitiagtion of the penatly said the men had grievances and had acted in a reprehensible manner though the trouble might have been averted by the exercise of tact. The Court reserved its decision.
