NAVAL TRAINING.

Admiral Beaumont's Views. Our Restrictive Shipping Laws.

.Presß Association.) Auckland, Saturday. A deputation of the Royal Naval and Royal Marine Associations held a conference with Admiral Beaumont on board the Sierra, and discussed the need of the establishment at the principal colonial ports of naval training ships, so that the nucleus of a maritime population might be formed. The Admiral said he cordially agreed with tbe proposal, and would bring the subject before tbe proper authorities on his arrival in England. The admittance of colonial youths into the navy, as agreed upon at the recent conference of colonial Premiers, would do something to remove the bar which the stringent merchant shipping laws of this colony prefented to the employment of youths on the sea, but he realised that tbe establishment cf training ships might be of great additional service. He pointed out that H.M.S. Pylades, now on the station, might answer tbe burpose ternporariiy, pending tbe preparation of suitable vessels, which might Otherwise cause considerable delay.
