Resolutions Bailing Netting' Export, and River Pollution,

Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. The Acclimatisation Societies' Conference eat again this afternoon. The question of netting trout wbs re-opened,' and, on the motion of Mr Lowe, th*. following resolution was curried unanimously :—' That this conference desires to point out to the Government that the work of acclimatisation societies in introducing trout will be in a very great measure destroyed, and one of the greatest attractions to tourists done away wi}h, if netting is allowed in the lakes aud at tha mouths of tho various rivers, as witness tho recent operations at Lakes Wakatipu and Rotorua ; at the avne time tbe conferecce recognises that the question of the netting of trout must be dealt with, but strongly urges upon the Government not to allow netting of any kind except after the fullest enquiries and under tho strictest regulations and supervision and after consultation with the local acclimatisation society." A resolution was also adopted in favour of the export of trout being prohibited. On the recommendation of the Southland society, a suggested amendment to the Fisheries Act was passed, prohibiting deleterious matter from any sawmill, factory, tannery, fellmongery, flaxmill, sheep-dip, or boiling down digerter being deposited in the streams. ! Rules for the formation of a New Zealand Acclimatisation Society were adopted, and the following honorary officers elected for the current year;— President, Mr J. B. Fisher, Canterbury ; vice-president, Mr J. C. Andrew, Wellington ; treasurer, Mr L. G. Reid, Wellington ; secretary, Mr Yon Stunner, Wellington.
