SCOUT JUBILEE BALL

"With a good the jubilee ball of the West fluid bcout droop, field in the George Street ballroom last evening, proved a successful venture. The bail achieved a twofold purpose—it suitably marked the silver jubilee of the establishment of the troop, and added materially to the funds the committee have earmarked for tlie building of a Scout hall on a section which already has been bought. The Mayor (Mr Mansford) declared the ball open and, m doing so, eulogised the value of the Scout movement; to young boys and youths. He saiu the movement gave a line training in citizenship, winch would be put to good purpose in tlie diiiicuit years which lay ahead as an aftermath of the war. He congratulated the troop on the attainment of its jubilee (which actually fell last year, but was not celebrated then owing to the war conditions), and extended his good wishes to the troop and the movement in general in the city. The supper arrangements were in the care of a group of ladies headed by Mrs J. Kennedy, and the M.C. was Mr W. Collins. .Mr H. Bartlett was the chairman of the committee which arranged the ball. Miss Z. Bailey presented a Hawaiian ballet, the performers being well applauded.
