MAY RETURN HOME

GIRLS ON MUNITIONS

(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 21 The fact that all «irls terminating munitions work' will be permitted, if they so desire, to return to their home areas, was stressed by the Controller of Manpower (Mr H. L. Bockett) today. Where, however, they volunteered to remain to undertake other essential work they would be given an assurance that, if at any future date they wanted to return home, no obstacle would be placed in their way. All ammunition work in the Wellington district had been cancelled, so a certain amount of labour would be available for other essential work. Mr Bockett pointed out that, although many firms were or had been encased on Army clothing contracts, the clothing industry had any amount of work in" hand in meeting essential civilian requirements. This was also the position in many other industries, which, although their military work might cease, still had a great deal of leeway to make up in returning to normal production.
