"GHOSTS" FROM ULSTER

IRISH ABSTENTIONISTS

(Rec. 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 21. Two men who for 10 years have been "ghost" members of the House of Commons suddenly appeared in the House for the first time today. They were Messrs A. J. Mulvey and P. Cunningham, Irish Nationalist members for the dual seat of Fer-managh-Tyrone who were elected in November, 1935, and re-elected last month. They have been absent for 10 years, during which time they have "not taken their salaries as a protest against the British Parliament's jurisdiction over Ulster. This led to their being described as "Irish abstentionists".

The only member aware of their identity when they showed up today was Mr John Beattie, the Labour member for West Belfast.
